Description:
Quite often there is a need to sharpen a knife, ax or garden tool in, so to speak, derivative conditions. And taking with you a stationary whetstone, which you are so used to, is not particularly convenient because of its large size. In this case, a complex diamond sharpener from the Diafold® series from the American company DMT (Diamond Machining Technology) will come to the rescue.
Model features:
DMT Diafold® folding diamond sharpener is a green plastic base measuring 110mm x 22mm x 5mm, on which a thin perforated metal plate with encrusted diamonds of small grain size According to the DMT classification, the green color of the plastic base indicates that the whetstone has an extra-fine grain (grain size 9 microns, 1200 mesh). The design of the plastic handle is similar to the popular butterfly knives (balisong), and it consists of two halves, which when turned 180° hide the whetstone.
The main purpose of DMT Diafold® diamond sharpeners with a small grain (extra-fine, size grains 9 microns, 1200 mesh) – final polishing and sharpening of tools, knives in field conditions.
The advantages of Diafold® diamond grinding stones are:
- small dimensions when folded and low weight, which allows you to take them on the road;
- they do not wear out and do not require restoration of the plane;
- they remove metal from the blade more efficiently and faster than natural stones.
The convenient handle of the Diafold® series sharpeners allows you to sharpen and straighten knives both in a hanging position and by placing the whetstone on the base , for example, on the table.
Sharpening technology:
To make the final polishing of the knife and bring the cutting edge to razor sharpness, we have a Diafold® whetstone on the edge of the table. We set the blade of the knife on the stone at the required angle (usually knives have a sharpening angle of 40°, which means that there should be an angle of about 20° between the blade and the whetstone), and we move the blade with the cutting edge forward. It is important that the direction of movement of the blade on the whetstone at the point of contact is always perpendicular to the cutting edge. Having polished one side of the cutting edge, we move on to the other, following the rules listed above.
