Knife care and maintenance

Knife Care — What You Need to Know

For a chef to work efficiently, it’s important to have not only reliable tools but also care products for them. Cleaning liquids, lubricants, oils, and more are essential if you want your knives and tools to maintain sharpness and comfortable use.

What You Need for Knife Care

A chef’s work quality is determined not only by how well a dish is prepared but also by how they care for their tools. It’s not enough to simply have knife oil on hand; it must be applied correctly so that both the blade and the handle are protected from environmental impact.

For knife care, you will need:

• Knife Oil: a universal product used to clean stainless steel blades, wooden handles, rubber inserts, leather, and more;

• Blade Lubricant: suitable for use only on the metal part of the knife, removes food residues and corrosion marks;

• Storage Solutions: not only lubricants and oils matter, but also proper storage — in the form of rolls for knife sets or individual sheaths.

Before ordering knife care products for delivery, read reviews and choose a quality manufacturer suitable for your type of steel and knife handle material.

Knife Care: Basic Rules

To provide adequate care not only for the blade but also for the handle, follow these guidelines:

• All types of knives should be lubricated every few months;

• Knife blades should always be sharp to avoid accidents;

• After use, the blade should be washed and dried thoroughly;

• Certain knife components (especially folding knives) require more frequent lubrication;

• When in contact with salt or chemicals, the knife should be washed and lubricated more often;

• Metal bolsters should be polished separately until shiny.
