Description:
In people who lead an active lifestyle (constantly go fishing, hunting or simply relax in nature), quite often there is a need to sharpen or repair a tool/knife. So that lovers of active recreation do not have to carry bulky stationary whetstones with them, the American company DMT (Diamond Machining Technology) offers Diamond Sharpeners-Keychains of the Angler Mini-Sharp® series. Sharpeners of the Angler Mini-Sharp® series have fairly compact dimensions and a small weight, which allows you to carry them on your keys in the form of a keychain.
Features of the model:
DMT Angler Mini-Sharp® diamond sharpener key ring - base made of colored plastic measuring 68mm x 24mm x 5mm, on which a thin perforated metal plate with besieged diamonds of different grain sizes. The whetstone is placed in a plastic case with a key ring, which turns into a convenient handle when the bar is extended. The plastic base and protective case are painted red, which according to the classification of the DMT company means that the whetstone has a fine grain (grain size 25 microns, 600 mesh). There is a special groove on the sharpening stone for sharpening fishing hooks.
The main purpose of the folding Angler Mini-Sharp® sharpener is to straighten and sharpen tools, fishing hooks and small knives in the field.
The advantages of Angler Mini-Sharp® diamond sharpeners are:
- small dimensions when folded and low weight, which allows you to take them on the road;
- they are sometimes do not wear out and do not require restoration of the plane;
- they remove metal from the blade more efficiently and faster than natural stones.
The presence of a convenient handle in the sharpeners of the Angler Mini-Sharp® series allows you to sharpen and straighten knives as if in a hanging position, and putting the whetstone on a base, for example, on a table.
Sharpening technology:
To sharpen the knife blade, we have an Angler Mini-Sharp® whetstone on the edge of the table. We set the blade of the knife on the whetstone at the required angle (taking into account the fact that most knives have a sharpening angle of 40°, which means that there should be an angle of approximately 20° between the blade and the whetstone), and we move the blade with the cutting edge forward. It is important that the direction of movement of the blade on the whetstone at the point of contact is always perpendicular to the cutting edge. When working with a diamond grinding stone with a fine grain, you should not press the blade strongly against the surface, otherwise small scratches will appear, which will later have to be removed by careful polishing. Having sharpened one side of the cutting edge, we move to the other side, following the rules listed above. After sharpening the blade, the cutting edge can be polished on a very fine-grained bar (extra-fine, diamond grain size 9 μm, 1200 mesh).
