Japanese water stone King is produced by Matsunaga, a company located in Osaka, Japan. Matsunaga is one of the oldest manufacturers of sharpened stones in Japan and, in addition to the King brand, also produces bars with the name Sun Tiger. King and Sun Tiger stones are widely known in the Western market, as they have been present there for a long time, and they were among the first sharpening stones exported from Japan abroad.

King stones are made using classical technology and occupy a niche of the most budget-friendly sharpening stones in Japan. However, these stones cover most of the needs of the chef's market in Japan. The price-performance ratio of these stones is attractive.
