Seki Kanetsugu, a renowned knife maker, was established over a hundred years ago in 1918 by Matsujiro Kawamura, a descendant of Kanetsugu, the swordsmith who began crafting swords in 1345. The Kawamura family, spanning three generations, has dedicated themselves to developing a workshop that lives up to the Kanetsugu name. They have blended Seki's traditional knife making methods with innovative techniques, such as the "sub-zero process," resulting in Seki Kanetsugu becoming a leading knife maker in Japan. To commemorate their centenary in 2018, Kanetsugu launched the new "Zuiun" (瑞雲) series, which features top-of-the-line Damascus steel that represents the auspicious Buddhist symbol of clouds.
